The long Memorial day weekend gave me time to watch a few movies. Unfortunately, the two movies I watched were not really worth my time to give a full review to here. This is not to say that they were bad movies, but just not great movies.

House Bill 1034 was quietly passed in the Texas legislature changing the Texas Pledge of Allegiance. How did they change the pledge? Well, they added the words “One State Under God” to the pledge. The original pledge was created in 1933, and the last change to the pledge happened in 1965 to correct an error. No other significant change has occurred…until now.
Texas House Bill 1287 allows for Texas high schools to teach an elective course in the Bible, both new and old testament. This bill is being introduced under the guise of teaching Biblical content in order to better understand its impact on literature, art and contemporary culture. However, it seems to be the exploitation of a legal loophole to squeeze a bible class into the public schools.
I am planning a project to convert an upstairs play room into a home theater. I had a surround sound system set up in my old house, but since moving to my new house more than a year ago, I haven’t been able to get one in place. So, I’ve been watching movies either on my computer, or on my big screen TV with only stereo speakers. Not the most ideal way to watch movies these days.

Many reviews have said that Pan’s Labyrinth is an adult fairytale, but instead it seems to be a story of escapism for a child who has gone through loss and change in her world. In this case the child is a 10 year old girl, Ofelia, and her version of escapism takes the form of a “real” fairytale where she is one of the central figures. This fairytale is intertwined with the issues going on in her life to the point where it becomes indistinguishable to her. She, of course, is the only one who can see the other characters in this fairytale leaving it to the viewer to decide if it is real or not.
I’ve started my own Blog.
I guess I decided I needed a place to say what I feel about things happening in the world around me. And to hopefully provide some moderate thought to the extreme views from both sides.
In addition to some commentary on events, I wanted a place to post some of my favorite things in the areas of music, movies, and other places around the web to explore.
I’m not sure anyone will ever read this stuff, but at least I can get things off my chest. If anyone does read it, I hope you enjoy it or at least maybe see a different view on things from someone who isn’t trying to shout it at you.
