Movie Review: The Good Shepherd

I initially intended to watch only half of this nearly 3-hour movie last night, but ended up watching the entire thing.  Not because it kept my interest, but because I wanted to know how it would end.  And in the end, I was somewhat disappointed, but I enjoyed the show.

Prayer in Texas Public Schools

House Bill 3678 was recently signed into law by Governor Rick Perry, giving students protection from discrimination when expressing religious views in Texas public schools.  Not only that, but basically it allows for daily prayer recited to the student body. Read the rest of this entry »

Movie Review: Blood Diamond

I just finished watching this movie and it’s definitely worth your time, but there are some issues that keep if from being a great movie.  I would describe this movie as an action movie masquerading as a movie with a message.  Yes, they try to highlight the issue of the illegal diamond trade and its consequences on the people and countries exploited, but at the heart of it, this movie is about action and lots of it.

So You Want a Divorce? Not so fast!

Texas House Bill 2684 introduced by Warren Chisum to the Texas Legislature would require couples seeking a divorce to attend a crisis marriage education course of no less than 10 hours prior to the granting of a divorce.  And by the way, the couple has to pay for this course!

Luckily, this bill died in committee, so not to worry right now, but I can bet they will be back next session with more of this type of junk legislation.

Science vs. Religion….NOT

Why do the extremes on both sides want to pit Science against Religion and Religion against Science?  Why can’t the two co-exist peacefully?  Don’t they answer different questions about the world?  Can’t one be both a Scientist and Religious?

Creation Museum

I don’t routinely watch Fox News, but I did catch this clip on Pharyngula from the Bill O’Reilly show with John Kasich sitting in for Bill, interviewing Ken Ham about the opening of the Creation Science museum in Kentucky last week. Now, after seeing this, I was surprised by 3 things…
